Synaspismos calls on the governments and the countries’ epresentatives who are in Copenhagen, even at the last minute, to reach a legally binding agreement, based on the principles of equality and justice, in accordance with the proposals of the scientific community.
Specifically, in order to keep the temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius it is necessary to do the following:
The developed countries must decrease their emissions by 40% in connection with the levels of the year 1990, the year that international negotiations started, by 2020 The emission reduction in 2050 should be over 95%.
Sufficient funding of the developing countries to enable them to handle the consequences of climate change.
The total universal emissions must be decreased by at least 80% until 2050.
Copenhagen must not become a missed opportunity, a formal meeting of the so-called world leaders in a loose atmosphere that will reach a loose agreement and will announce it amid meaningless applause.
